Motorola is expected to launch an updated version of its Moto X smartphone in 2017. A new video based off of CAD images of the smartphone provides an up close and personal look at the design and some of the features of the handset.
In the weeks leading up to the launch of the LG G5 at Mobile World Congress 2016 in February, the smartphone began making headlines with leaked specs and features that would be included to differentiate it from its Android rivals.
On New Year's Eve 2015, we reported that the smartphone was going to feature a modular design that would allow users to add new hardware to the device. A few weeks later, renders of the LG G5 leaked and showed how its modular design would work.
LG And Motorola Release Modular Smartphones
While LG focused on making add-ons that would slide in and out of the bottom of the LG G5, Motorola took a different approach of creating a modular smartphone. The Moto Z would replace the Moto X as Motorola's flagship smartphone and would feature a modular design.
The handset includes pogo pins on the rear of its case that allow different accessories to magnetically attach to it. Some thought Motorola gave up on its Moto X lineup, but a new report claims that is not the case and a video based on CAD drawings of the smartphone has been created to give an up close and personal look at what is supposedly the Moto X (2017).
Moto X (2017) Makes Appearance On Video
Android Authority and OnLeaks have partnered up to give the world its first look at what is reportedly the Moto X (2017). As you can see in the video below, the Moto X (2017) will not include the ultra-thin design of the Moto Z, which measures in at 153.3 x 75.3 x 5.2 mm, while the Moto X (2017) will measure 150 x 73.8 x 8.4 mm and its rear camera bump pushes it up to 9.5 mm thick.
The new Moto X will also feature a 5.2-inch display and home button with embedded fingerprint scanner, and the video clearly shows the smartphone will retain the standard 3.5 mm headphone port Motorola ditched on the Moto Z, as well as microSD USB port for charging and data transfer and not the USB Type-C found on the Moto Z. The power button and volume rocker keys are located on the right-hand side of the handset.
It's unclear whether Motorola will officially announce the Moto X (2017) at CES in January or unveil it at Mobile World Congress in late February. We'll update you on any new information. Check out the video below.
