To properly ring in the new year, a classic adventure game is en route to PlayStation Plus subscribers, but it's not alone. Arriving with it are plenty of titles slated for next year's free games lineup.
Sony has now officially announced what free games — six in total — are headed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita as part of the PlayStation Plus program, and thanks to cross-platform support, PS4 and PS Vita owners can net more than two games each.
Day Of The Tentacle Remastered
Day of The Tentacle Remastered is a remastered version of the 1993 graphic adventure original by LucasArts and a sequel to Ron Gilbert's Maniac Mansion. The game is manifold: it's a mind-bending puzzler infused with the concept of time travel, all the while giving off a vibrant cartoonish sheen. It'll be available for free on PS4 and PS Vita.
This War Of Mine: The Little Ones
Originally a title released for Windows, OS X and Linux in 2014, This War of Mine was later released in 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One, under the title This War of Mine: The Little Ones. Made by 11 bit studios, it's a war survival game inspired by the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War. The game takes the perspective of civilians affected by the war instead of putting players in the shoes of frontline combat.
This War of Mine: The Little Ones will be available for free on PS4.
BlazeRush
BlazeRush is a vibrant, high-octane arcade racing survival game that foregoes aspects like health, levels, and brakes, to deliver a fast-paced, holds-no-punches vehicular combat multiplayer.
BlazeRush will be available for free on PS3.
The Swindle
The Swindle is a stealth action game developed by Size Five Games, released for all major platforms last year. Replete with Steampunk influences, The Swindle is a caper tale involving the usual suspects: breaking into buildings, stealing and running away.
The Swindle will be available for free on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.
Azkend 2
Azkend 2 is a simple match-three puzzle game, albeit a very polished one. Always the assumption with this genre is its shallowness, yet Azkend 2 is anything but that. The game is layered with an illustrated storyline, alongside "hidden object" mini games to add a dash of variety.
Azkend 2 will be available for free on PS Vita.
Titan Souls
An Acid Nerve action-adventure title, Titan Souls, first released in 2015, tasks players to set out on a journey to track down these so-called Titan Souls that have been thrown off in all sorts of places among ruins, guarded by colossal Titans. Attack, combat or take these Titans down to uncover ancient secrets hidden inside the game's world.
Titan Souls will be available for free on PS Vita and PS4.
These games may be picked up on Jan. 3, 2017 at the PlayStation Store for free, assuming they're subscribed to PlayStation Plus, Sony's $10-a-month or $60-a-year premium program.
