The Asus Chromebook Flip is currently one of the most popular Chromebooks in the market, with its multi-form design, decent specifications, and affordable price. The Asus Chromebook Flip is also the first one to gain access to the Google Play Store from the built-in Chrome OS to download Android apps.
However, through a leaked listing on Newegg, the next Chromebook by Asus has been revealed. Could the upcoming Asus Chromebook C302CA prove to be an even better Chromebook?
Asus Chromebook C302CA Leaked
The listing on Newegg that leaked information regarding the upcoming Chromebook was spotted by Chrome Unboxed, which reported that the Asus Chromebook C302CA, codenamed Cave, will not be the direct successor to the Asus Chromebook Flip. The successor will be the Chromebook codenamed Bob, with the Asus Chromebook C302CA to occupy its own niche in the Asus Chromebook lineup.
The Newegg listing revealed the specs of the Asus Chromebook C302CA as being powered by the 2.2 GHz Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor and 4 GB of RAM, with a 12.5-inch full HD display and 64 GB of internal storage.
The Chromebook will also come with a pair of USB Type-C ports, a headphone jack and a micro SD card slot. It will weigh 2.65 pounds, with a backlit keyboard and an all-aluminum body. The material of the body will grant sturdiness to the Asus Chromebook C302CA and its 360-degree hinge.
The leaked listing on Newegg has since been taken down, but not before Chrome Unboxed was able to send in an order for the Chromebook for the price of $499.
Is The Asus Chromebook C302CA A MacBook Killer?
All previous reports on the Asus Chromebook C302CA has it listed as having 8 GB of RAM, and not the 4 GB of RAM that was revealed on the leaked Newegg listing. This could either mean that previous reports were wrong, or that there will be a two RAM options for the Chromebook.
If the Asus Chromebook C302CA could indeed have an option for 8 GB of RAM, its specifications and expandable memory could allow it to challenge Apple's MacBook. The Chromebook would be able to offer most of the MacBook's functionality for just over half the price, assuming that there will be a price increase for the 8 GB of RAM option over the $499 price listed for the 4 GB of RAM version.
Chrome OS may not be as capable as Apple's Mac OS, but if users will only be using the Asus Chromebook C302CA for browsing the internet, working with Google tools and using apps from the Google Play Store, it might be able to draw away customers from buying the more expensive Apple MacBook.
Asus Chromebook C302CA Official Release
It is unclear when Asus will officially release the Asus Chromebook C302CA, but for Chrome Unboxed and a few users, they might be able to get their hands on the laptop early. Orders for the Chromebook that were sent in before Newegg took down the listing reveal that the Asus Chromebook C302CA will be shipped within a few days, but it remains to be seen whether the laptop will indeed be coming for the hopeful buyers.
