Almost 200,000 units of the NES Classic Edition were sold in November, but the hype surrounding the retro console is nowhere near over. It remains among the most sought after gift items for the holiday season, but the frustrating supply shortage for the NES Classic Edition means that most gamers looking forward to the device will not have it in time for Christmas.
Fortunately, Best Buy is keeping its promise that it will have stocks of the NES Classic Edition on Dec. 20, in what could be the last chance to buy the device before Christmas rolls in.
NES Classic Edition In Best Buy Stores Dec. 20
According to a press release by Best Buy, the NES Classic Edition will be available in over 1,000 stores across the United States on Dec. 20. A quick check reveals that Best Buy has just over 1,000 stores in the country, which means that the nearby Best Buy will likely have stocks of the retro console for sale. The company did not simply say that all stores will have stocks in case there are delays of shipment to a handful of locations.
The stocks for each participating Best Buy store will be limited though, so customers looking to get a better chance of buying the NES Classic Edition should troop to their local Best Buy stores early. The device will not be listed on Best Buy's website for online purchases, so buyers will need to physically get in line if they want a chance at the retro console.
NES Classic Edition Sale Like Black Friday
Best Buy said that it will be treating the upcoming sale of the NES Classic Edition like Black Friday, with the retro console to be sold to customers on a first-come, first-served basis. The retailer's stores will be using a ticketing process for those who fall in line, with Best Buy to only give out as many tickets per store as the units of the device that are available in that location.
Hoarders and resellers looking to make mountains of quick cash on the NES Classic Edition will not be able to do so through Best Buy though, as each customer will only be allowed to purchase one unit.
To improve your chances of being able to buy a NES Classic Edition on Dec. 20, you should think about lining up outside Best Buy hours before the store opens, or perhaps even think about camping out overnight if you are that desperate.
Best Buy is making the Dec. 20 sale of the NES Classic Edition sound like it is the last time that the retailer will have the retro console available before Christmas. With no word coming from other retail companies, this very well could be the last chance to buy the device before Dec. 25.
