The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to stage its global debut next year, possibly on Jan. 5 to 8 during the CES 2017. Based on rumors and leaks that have accumulated thus far, several computer renders have surfaced showing the new Samsung flagship.
Galaxy S8 Renders
Six photos have popped up on the Chinese popular social media network Weibo and they were designed by a user called KingwayLee. They are, of course, neither official nor leaked materials from inside Samsung itself.
The images are only developed by a user but these demonstrate the level of interest generated by the device. In addition, Weibo has produced several leaks from its users that turned out to be real such as the OnePlus 3T, so we will never know.
Seamless Curved Display
The renders showed the Galaxy S8 sporting a more seamless curved display, which seems to extend further than what the S7 edge was able to achieve so that it now appears to completely wrap around the device when viewed from the front. The device itself is also purportedly thinner than its predecessor.
There is also a noticeable increase in screen real estate and appears to be completely bezel-free. However, it is not clear how Samsung could implement its fingerprint sensor in this design language because of the significantly reduced chin. Based on the depiction of the user interface, the renders also indicate that the device could be sporting capacitive buttons. Again, the smaller chin could make it a bit more challenging to use.
Best Smartphone For 2017?
Regardless of whether the renders would actually resemble the Galaxy S8 or not, there remains the expectation that the S8 will be something that is only short of earth-shaking. This can be attributed to a number of reasons.
First, Samsung will certainly want to recover from the Note 7 snafu, wherein it not only lost tons of money but the company also emerged out of it with tattered reputation. So the S8 will serve as some tool for redemption if you will.
The above variable is further supported by rumors that Samsung has delayed the S8 launch. Certainly, there are those who believe that it will get unveiled at CES but there are now reports adopting a wider time frame from a first quarter release to a launch happening sometime in the first half of 2017. The latest estimate cites an April launch.
The purported delay should mean that Samsung really wants to ensure that the S8 would be meeting if not surpassing everyone's expectations.
There are also more concrete details that can point to a really awesome device. For instance, there is Samsung's partnership with Qualcomm to develop the Snapdragon 835. This 10nm chip, which has so far registered test results that broke records at GFXbench, will most likely power the Galaxy S8.
Unfortunately, as the Galaxy S8's announcement inches closer, we can expect fewer leaks as Samsung purportedly instituted mechanisms to prevent unauthorized release of information.
