A 15-year-old student who opened fire at a Washington state school apparently texted the victims and invited them to the school cafeteria for lunch before the rampage.
On Friday morning, Oct. 24, Jaylen Fryberg messaged five students of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, inviting them for lunch before pulling out a handgun and shooting them at the table. Fryberg then shot himself in the head revealed Sheriff Ty Trenary on Monday, Oct. 27.
Just a week before the incident, Fryberg was named homecoming prince. Witnesses reveal that they heard arguing prior to the shooting. Detectives are investigating into the unfortunate incident and sorting through Fryberg's social media, text and phone records. However, Trenary reveals that this could take months and may not even turn up the motive.
Fryberg is the son of a notable family in the Tulalip tribe and was allegedly upset over his breakup with his girlfriend.
"It won't last ... it'll never last," wrote Fryberg a day prior to the shooting on Twitter.
A few days Fryberg wrote "It breaks me... It actually does... I know it seems like I'm sweating it off... But I'm not.. And I never will be able to..."
Investigators divulge that the .40 caliber Beretta used by Fryberg was purchased legally and was owned by a family member. How the teen managed to get the weapon is unclear at this juncture.
One of the victims - 14-year old Zoe R. Galasso - died on the spot. 14-year old Gia Soriano who was shot in the head passed away at a hospital on Sunday, Oct. 26. Two of the victims - Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Andrew Fryberg - remain critical. 14-year old Nate Hatch, said to be Fryberg's cousin is showing improvement.
Marysville-Pilchuck High School is anticipated to stay closed through the week as students and their families try to grapple with the tragedy. Students have made a temporary memorial near a chain-link fence on campus which bears red and white balloons, stuffed animals, flowers, notes etc.
