Aside from the digital aspect, what sets smartwatches apart from the traditional analog timepieces is the tremendous opportunity for customization. Smartwatch tinkerers must know that an Android and iOS app called Facer is in the thick of this feature.
Little Labs, Facer's developer has recently released its 3.0 version and it introduces support for the Tizen OS, Samsung's operating system for its wearable line.
What Is Facer?
For the uninitiated, Facer allows anyone to create a custom watch face. Aside from its application on their devices, creators can also upload it so other users can use it to customize their wearable.
Today, there are around 15,000 watch faces in Facer database and they have been created by 6,000 designers. Some of the designs uploaded by the Facer community are available for download at Facer's website.
Facer is now considered the largest watch face platform, thanks to the more than 1 million downloads and millions of daily interactions. The app's availability in the Tizen ecosystem means the Samsung Gear S3 and the Gear S2 owners also now have access to a wide range of customization content.
Facer 3.0 Features
Aside from the Tizen support, the update also included support for new Android Wear devices such as Michael Kors, Asus Zenwatch 3, and Moto 360 Sport, among others.
Facer also comes with all new features available to the app across supported devices. These include the Color Matcher, which automatically mimics the color of the clothes you are wearing. It is a nifty feature for those interested in coordinating their entire outfit.
The team behind Facer has also included more resources for Facer users and would-be designers. There is now a slew of detailed tutorials such those about the creation of a watch face from scratch and the templates for popular watchfaces.
The team also bolstered the Facer community so that users are better engaged and have access to support from fellow users.
Standalone Facer Creator For macOS
Watch face designers can use the Facer Creator online using a web browser. But a standalone app has also been released for Mac. Unlike the browser-based tool, it includes advanced features such as the TimeMachine manipulation through touchpad gestures, as well as the integration with Apple's all new TouchBar. It is now available at the macOS App Store for free.
"Utilize design templates, premium assets, drag and drop functionality to create working watch faces in mere minutes," Little Labs described Facer at the macOS App Store.
