Google is lending iPhone owners a hand in making the switch to Pixel, Pixel XL, or any other Android phone, rolling out an update to Drive for iOS that lets users instantly back up their data.
As the Mountain View company says, anyone looking to make the big jump can do so in three easy steps, thanks to the new features.
How To Take The Plunge: Moving From iOS To Android
According to Google, all you have to do is install Drive for iOS, back up your data, and sign in on your Pixel or Android device.
Of course, that's pretty much the gist of it, but here's hashing the instructions out:
Step 1: Make sure you have a Google account.
Step 2: Download or update Drive on your iOS device and sign in.
Step 3: Open Drive and head to Menu > Settings > Backup.
Step 4: Select the data you want to back up, from contacts and calendar events to photos and videos, and start the process.
Step 5: On your Pixel or Android device, sign in using the same Google account you used in Drive for iOS, and you should see all the content you backed up there.
Note: Setup may take several hours, so to ensure it goes without a hitch, have a stable Wi-Fi connection and power outlet ready.
What You Can't Transfer Via This Method
Contacts, calendar, photos, and videos — those are almost everything users need to make a big mobile OS switch. Almost.
Unfortunately, Drive won't back up text messages or music files, but that doesn't mean there isn't a way to do so.
Direct Connection Between The iPhone And Pixel
Before all this, Google already posted promotional and instructional videos to guide users in going from the iPhone to the Pixel.
With the handy Quick Switch Adapter that comes out of the box and Apple's Lightning cable, anyone can connect the two smartphones for a seamless transfer.
Needless to say, this is arguably a more efficient method in comparison, but it doesn't make a Cloud backup on Drive.
Wrapping Things Up
Any iPhone user out there who's been itching to take the leap from iOS to Pixel or Android can now go ahead in yet another way, taking the headache typically involved in such processes out of the picture.
