Billboard's top streaming songs of the year have been revealed, and superstars like Drake, Rihanna and Justin Bieber all dominated the top of the chart. It was breakthrough rapper Desiigner's surprise hit "Panda" however, that topped them all, leading the pack to take the crown as the No. 1 streaming song of 2016.
Drake, Rihanna, Bieber, Chainsmokers Dominate Chart
Breakthrough EDM pop duo The Chainsmokers joined Drake, Rihanna and Justin Bieber to rule the top 10 streaming songs of the year. Each artist made two appearances in the top 10 to solidify their chart domination.
Rihanna and Drake teamed up early in the year to sing together on the smash hit "Work," which came in at the No. 2 spot, followed by Justin Bieber's biggest streaming song of the year, "Sorry." It was Drake again at No. 4 with his huge spring and summer hit "One Dance" featuring Wizkid and Kyla, while his on-again, off-again girlfriend Rihanna nipped at his heels with her big hit "Needed Me" in the No. 5 position.
Justin Bieber made his second appearance in the top 10 with No. 6 song "Love Yourself," and The Chainsmokers took the No. 7 spot with their huge worldwide smash "Closer." After Twenty One Pilots "Stressed Out" in the eighth position, The Chainsmokers once again appear with "Don't Let Me Down" at No. 9. Adele rounded out the top 10 with her now classic "Hello," a holdover from 2015.
Desiigner's 'Panda' Takes Top Spot
Despite the serious star power of the aforementioned artists, it was 19-year-old rapper Desiigner that ruled the roost, with his breakthrough smash "Panda" taking the No. 1 spot on 2016's streaming songs chart.
"I put everything I see - a movie, Grand Theft Auto - in my music, so when I made "Panda," it was crazy. I get possessed," the rapper explained. "I know I'm saying words; it's just like you're tapped into my world. That's my job as an artist: to show you and make you understand." Music fans certainly understood Desiigner in 2016, choosing his song over those of many other established music stars.
Beyond their two-apiece top 10 showings, Drake made three more appearances in the top 30, including his enduring 2015 hit "Hotline Bling," while Bieber had two more top 30 hits and Rihanna had one. The Chainsmokers' first 2016 hit, "Roses," placed at No. 36. Fifth Harmony's "Work From Home," which we just reported was the most viewed video on YouTube in 2016 with more than a billion views, just missed the top 10 streaming songs of the year, coming in at No. 11.
