The much anticipated multiplayer shooter game from Bungie has finally been given a release date.
According to Bungie, avid FPS fans will finally be able to get a taste of the game, come 2014. Unfortunately, it will still be quite a wait since the game will be released on Sept. 9, 2014 for the PS4, the PS3, the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. However, impatient gamers will be able to play the beta version of the game on the PS4 and the older PS3 when it debuts during summer next year.
Destiny has been described as a "mythic science fiction"-based game that has elements of both an action role playing game as well as a first person shooting game. However, the game's developers also say that certain elements of the massively multiplayer online gaming genre will also be present in the final game. Despite its MMO elements, the game will primarily focus on its FPS foundation. As such, it is also being described as a "shared world shooter." It was first demoed by the company at this year's Sony E3 conference to the delight of the gaming community in attendance.
When the game is finally released, gamers will be able to enjoy a massive world and a rich storyline. In addition to this, the game will also showcase the company's new game engine. Players will also be able to use the company's "hopper" matchmaking system, which will make both competitive and co-op play more interesting and fun.
According to a statement from Bungie's community manager David Dague, "We promised to redefine what players should expect from a Bungie game. We said we wanted to change the way people play games together. We set our bar high. For us, Destiny represents a once in a lifetime opportunity." Dague also adds that Destiny is continuously being developed to stay true to the company's original vision of the game. Despite the delays, the company is saying that taking additional time to perfect the game will ultimately result in a final product that will satisfy the current expectations for the upcoming title.
