PlayStation 4 Pro’s Power Is Comparable To A $900 Gaming PC: ARK Developer

The Sony PS4 Pro is the video game console to beat this year and in 2017, and this is due to its beefy GPU that is capable of boosting performance of video games, further stepping ahead of the power of the Xbox One S.

Not everyone is sure of how powerful this console is, especially when compared to a gaming PC. However, the developers of ARK: Survival Evolved seems to believe the system is comparable to a $900 gaming PC in terms of gaming performance.

In an interview with WCCFTECH, Lead Programmer and Cofounder of Studio Wildcard, Jeremy Stieglitz, had a lot to say about ARK: Survival Evolved along with the PlayStation 4 Pro. The game is finally coming to the Sony system after releasing first on the PC and Xbox One via Early Access programs.

This is a bit of a surprise seeing as Sony had decided not to allow the game to launch on its platform until it was completely finished. That's not the case, but something happened behind the scene, and now Sony has changed its mind.

Now, when Stieglitz was asked about the performance of the PlayStation 4 Pro and how it stacks up, he says the GPU is similar to an NVIDIA 970.

"Very impressed with its performance, at a very reasonable price. We estimate it would cost at least $900 to build a similarly powerful PC, and that's if you were custom-building it with extreme cost control," says Stieglitz. "We estimate its raw GPU performance is similar to an NVIDIA 970, and along with CPU improvements and overall more memory, it's a really high benchmark for console performance."

That's quite impressive if true. We can't put a whole dollar on this seeing as the information came from a single person, but if more developers come out saying similar things, we'd be more willing to concede.

As for how the game will perform on the PlayStation 4 Pro, the game will run at 720p at 60 frames per second, and 1080p at 30 frames per second. When it comes down to the version for the original PlayStation 4, expect 680p or 720p. That's quite shocking seeing as majority of PlayStation 4 games have performed above 720p.

50 Million PlayStation 4 Consoles Sold

So far, the PlayStation 4 Pro has been doing well for Sony. It pushed the company to have the most video game consoles sold in November, and 50 million sold overall since the 2013 launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro. Furthermore, it could end up 20 million ahead of the Xbox One at the end of its lifespan according to analysts.

A 20 million lead would ensure Sony to become the winner of this generation. Then again, Microsoft is talking about the end of console generations with Project Scorpio. This means every new console will play the games of the previous, similar to how a PC operates.
