Everyone loves comedy, plain and simple. A well-timed joke can make the most bitter of men laugh, and a single line can turn around someone's entire day. Comedy lifts our spirits, and it does so in a number of ways: some people like slapstick, while others enjoy cruder humor.
That being said, there are certain subjects and situations that simply shouldn't be joked about. Certain situations call for civility, and failing to maintain that can ruin everything for everyone all at once. Case in point: the airport. Since 9/11 and the subsequent changes in security policy, it's not worth it to joke around in the airport, plain and simple.
Unfortunately, it seems that someone wasn't keen on taking that advice. Late Sunday night, an entire flight out of Los Angeles International was grounded after a joke Wi-Fi network was discovered on-board the aircraft, according to ABC 7 in L.A.
LAX Flight 136 was scheduled to depart Sunday night when an anonymous male passenger informed security of a suspicious Wi-Fi network aboard the plane. The network, named 'Al-Quida Free Terror Nettwork,' caused security to hold the flight on the runway for nearly four hours before evacuating the flight entirely. After even more waiting, the passengers of Flight 136 were told that their trip had been cancelled, and would have to wait until the next day to head home.
Airport security launched a full investigation after the network was discovered, though it's hard to believe their statement would make the passengers any happier. Despite causing an entire flight to be cancelled and rescheduled, airport security deemed that no crime had been committed and that no further action would be taken.
Whether it's due to the security team's lack of motivation or sheer luck, it seems that the prankster has gotten off scot-free this time. It's a shame, too: not only was the network a truly tasteless joke, but it delayed an entire flight to London for nothing. When it comes down to it, there's a big difference between making a bad joke and ruining the experience for everyone.
Here's hoping that whoever was behind the joke can't find a signal.
