A report by 9to5Mac revealed that Apple has added a new Report Junk feature on iCloud.com that will solve the iCloud calendar spam issue that users have recently been complaining about.
While the feature is only currently available on the Calendar web app in Apple's iCloud.com, it is expected that it will soon be rolled out in an upcoming software update to iOS devices and Mac computers.
Apple's Calendar Spam Problem
Calendar spam is one of the recent problems to plague users of Apple products, as it is possible for unauthenticated users to directly send calendar invites to iOS devices and Mac computers. Users who receive calendar spam will see a bubble alert on the Calendar app, along with an inbox message, and depending on the app's setting, also a pop-up notification.
While it is easy to dismiss calendar invites, it quickly becomes tiresome for most users, especially with the increased spam that was sent out for Black Friday and continuing into the holiday shopping season. In addition, once a user responds to the calendar invite by declining it, the spammers will know that the account is active and will unleash even more spam into that account.
How To Use The Report Junk Feature To Stop Calendar Spam
While there were several methods that users can try to deal with the calendar spam problem, the Report Junk feature will become the recommended solution to the issue once it is widely rolled out to iOS devices and Mac computers.
With the feature only available on iCloud.com for now, users can log in to their Calendar apps through their internet browsers to try it out. Users will see the Report Junk option appear for calendar invites that were sent to them from unknown senders, specifically those who are not in their list of contacts.
Upon choosing the option to report a calendar invite as junk, an alert will be displayed to explain that junk invitations will be automatically deleted from the user's Calendar app. The user could then either push through with the process or select the Not Junk option if he or she made a mistake.
For users who will try the Report Junk feature on iCloud.com, the invites that will be deleted through it will also be removed from all their synced calendars, including those on their iOS devices and other Mac computers.
Apple has not officially announced the feature, and a representative for Apple Support only stated that it will be rolled out to the Calendar app for the iOS and Mac soon without giving a specific date. At least it is already available on iCloud.com to solve calendar spam once and for all.
