The next-generation iPhone could come in a bold new color next year, as the latest rumor hints at a red iPhone 7s.
This year, the Jet Black iPhone 7 color option stirred great waves and became an instant hit. In fact, the demand for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black was so high that Apple a faced shortage and delayed shipment because it couldn't keep up.
It seems that each time Apple introduces a new color option, it drives up demand and the new avatar becomes a must-have. It happened with the Rose Gold iPhone and Jet Black iPhone, so the purported Red iPhone 7s rumored to debut in 2017 could be the next big hit.
Red iPhone 7s Model
Apple is expected to release not two, but three iPhone models next year, and one of them will reportedly come in a red avatar.
The news comes from Japanese publication Macotakara, which also claims to have learned from one of its sources that Apple's next iPhones will be called iPhone 7s, not iPhone 8.
Previous rumors indicated that Apple would release an iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus next year, as well as a third iPhone 8 option with a curved OLED display.
Color Option: (Red)
Apple has so far played it safe with its iPhone colors. Except for the plastic iPhone 5c, iPhones have usually come in classic white and black color options along with mellow pastels with a metallic sheen, but without any boldly colorful avatars.
As CNET points out, offering a red iPhone avatar would bring the colorful choices of the iPhone 5c to next year's iPhone and would also reflect Apple's commitment to (Red), Bono's charitable organization that helps provide HIV/AIDS medication. Apple's collaboration with (Red) has previously led to various red products.
Another Incremental Upgrade?
Macotakara also suggests that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus may not bring the big overhaul many expect. Instead, the publication suggests that next year's iPhones will sport a faster Apple A11 processor, but still no wireless charging capabilities.
Mophie recently released Juice Pack Air cases for the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models, adding wireless charging support thanks to its Charge Force technology. But iPhone fans still expect wireless charging options straight from Apple.
iPhone 7s And iPhone 8 In 2017?
It could be that the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus would be just incremental upgrades with improved specs but nothing over the top, while the third 2017 iPhone, called the iPhone 8, would deliver the overhaul.
In other words, just like Apple launched the iPhone 7 and iPhone SE in the same year, the company could release a red iPhone 7s and a top-notch iPhone 8 in 2017.
With no confirmation from Apple, however, take this news with a hefty grain of salt.
