If you're the proud owner of an HTC One M9 smartphone, albeit it's the unlocked variant and not the carrier-bound one, then you will be pleased to learn that the handset is now getting updated to Android 7.0 Nougat.
HTC One M9, which is the predecessor of the HTC 10, as promised, is now getting updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in Q4 2016.
On Monday, Dec. 5, HTC took to Twitter to announce that the OEM was ready to start updating the One M9 to the latest version of the Android operating system.
The company confirmed that the unlocked variant of the 5-inch smartphone would begin to get the Android 7.0 Nougat and not Android 7.1 Nougat update from Tuesday, Dec. 6. The software will be rolled out for the U.S. variant of the handset as an over-the-air (OTA) update.
The update brings with it support for multi-window options, bundled alerts, enhanced security and more.
The Android N software update for the HTC One M9 comes close on the heels of the flagship HTC 10's unlocked variant getting updated to the OS by end November as we reported.
Earlier in August, we revealed that HTC had affirmed that it would be pushing out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its HTC 10, HTC One M9 and the HTC One A9 smartphones in the coming months, putting them in the same league as the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
The OEM had also shared that the HTC 10 would be the first to get updated, followed by the One M9 and the One A9. With the arrival of the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update for the One M9, it seems HTC will soon push out the same for the One A9.
When Will The Carrier Variant Of HTC One M9 Get Updated?
The carrier variants of the HTC One M9 will have to wait a tad longer and will get a taste of Android N in early 2017.
Why Hasn't My Unlocked HTC One M9 Received The Update?
If you are in the United States and are yet to receive a notification of the OTA update's availability for your unlocked One M9 smartphone, exercise a little patience. Updates are usually pushed out in phases and, therefore, are staggered. This means that it could take a few days before your handset receives the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
How To Check For The Update?
To check if your unlocked HTC One M9 has received the OTA update manually, navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.
