Blizzard announced that Hearthstone has now been updated in order to fix the bug that the American server has experienced after the launch of the Mean Streets of Gadgetzan.
Hearthstone Tri-Class Bug
The bug involved the unusually high drop rate of the tri-class cards. These are the special cards that can be used by any of the three specific classes in their corresponding crime families. There are nine of these cards, including three legendary cards, one for each family.
The bug has been spotted by several players, and they have become the subject of several Reddit threads.
The existence of tri-cards is one of the distinctive features in the latest expansion to Hearthstone. Since it is unique to three classes, it enables the addition of new mechanics for each class and each crime family in the gameplay.
Initially, high drop rates would appear beneficial to a player. Imagine if one opens a pack and find several tri-class cards. To top it all, players would be acquiring a number of these cards while opening more packs over time. However, the same will be true in the case of other players as well. In addition, the high drop rate would also mean that players are receiving more and more duplicates.
"A hotfix was rolled out to all players on the Americas server at 2:30PM PST, which corrects this issue," a Blizzard community manager at the Battle.net forum said. "Players on the Americas server will now see tri-class cards appear at a drop rate that is consistent with other cards of their rarity."
Blizzard also stated that those packs purchased before the hotfix rollout will no longer experience the bug once opened at this point. The reason is that cards are generated upon a pack's opening and not upon its purchase.
Compensating With Perks
The game studio recognized that the bug has ruffled some players' feathers, so it is throwing in some perks to smooth things up. Players who open Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs before 2:30 p.m. PST today, Dec. 2, will get their hands full since they will also receive additional cards, which Blizzard considers as a compensation for the inconvenience. Affected players are entitled to 33 percent of the Gadgetzan packs opened before 2:30 p.m. PST, regardless if the player acquired packs through gold, Quests or real money.
The Mean Streets of Gadgetzan is part of Blizzard's effort to refresh its Hearthstone title. The expansion revolves around three crime families lording over a city free from the clutches of the powers of both the Horde and the Alliance.
Players get to choose their gameplay style based on the type of violence that the crime families are noted for.
"Each family offers unique benefits to its own select set of three Hearthstone classes, allowing them to utilize special tricks of the trade unavailable to rival families, so players will want to choose their allies wisely when building decks!" Blizzard stated.
