It's difficult for companies, especially phone makers, to get people's attention via advertising nowadays, given the rapid proliferation of smartphones in the market. But OnePlus has found a way to stand out, it seems, performing an unboxing video of its latest flagship, the OnePlus 3T, aboard a fighter jet.
OnePlus 3T Unboxing
For OnePlus, even unboxing videos need to evolve. Done are those seat-of-the-pants unboxing videos where products are slowly unraveled layer by layer. The new innovation in unboxing, at least for OnePlus, is adrenaline. The company took its OnePlus 3T aloft, boarded inside a fighter jet and unboxed right inside.
OnePlus tapped YouTube star Jake Paul to do the unboxing at a military airfield in Prague, Czech Republic. Jake unboxed the 3T inside the fighter jet as it soared, spun and zoomed across the sky. The video failed to provide the exact altitude of the fighter jet, though it's safe to say that even the most daring individual would end up queasy in the amount of acrobatics Jake went through in the video.
Aside from the unboxing, Jake also highlighted some of the 3T's key features. It was impressive how he remained semi-articulate in spite of the jet's incessant swoops and loops. He was able to give quick a rundown of the features, though his narrative was rife with intermittent freak-outs in between, and fairly so, since it's safe to assume that keeping your calm inside a fighter jet is a tall order.
OnePlus 3T Specs
The OnePlus 3T is the company's follow-up to its previous flagship, the OnePlus 3, which was released in June. At almost $40 more, the changes are quite minimal, and the OnePlus 3T stands as a likely purchase for those who have never owned a OnePlus smartphone before, or those looking to upgrade their OnePlus 2 or older smartphones.
It's recommended for OnePlus 3 owners to hold onto their smartphones for now and refrain from succumbing to the 3T, especially given rumors of the imminent OnePlus 4. That said, the 3T isn't a bad phone. It's just simply isn't worth the upgrade for OnePlus 3 owners.
The OnePlus 3T rocks a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. Its powered by a 2.35 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset with 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. The device boasts 16-megapixel front and rear-shooters, with the latter able to record 4K video. The smartphone also has a fingerprint sensor and a 3,400 mAh battery with Dash Charge technology that fills up to 60 percent in just 30 minutes.
The OnePlus 3T costs $439 and is available on OnePlus' website. For now, only the Gunmetal color is available, with the soft gold color option coming soon.
