A new pair of leaked product renders for the upcoming Huawei flagship, the P10, has been released via Chinese microblogging site Weibo, coming on the heels of another pair of renders released barely a week ago, which depicted a curved display variant of the P10.
The renders were scrutinized for its odd input configuration. On the chin just below the screen is a physical home button, which isn't a surprise. However, on the back of the phone is a fingerprint sensor — an odd design choice considering the same sensor could have been logically fitted beneath the physical button instead.
Huawei P10 Sans Home Button
It seems like the people behind the leaked renders have picked up on the scrutiny and corrected the design flaw. First brought into the fore by Playfuldroid, the newly released renders depict the P10 with the same curved display, the same fingerprint sensor but without the physical home button found on the previous renders, now replaced with the Huawei logo instead.
In a design standpoint, the new renders agree more toward Huawei's design choices in the past, thereby suggesting that the P10 would probably look closely similar to the renders once unveiled, that is, if these renders hold any merit.
Are The Leaks Legitimate?
Given the speed at which the creators of the renders dialed back and eliminated the perceived design flaw in the P10, it's a little difficult to trust that these renders are in fact authentic instead of fanmade.
One possibility is that the non-home button P10 could be a different variant alongside the home button-sporting P10 and the non-curved display P10, which was leaked not too long ago. The idea of different variants, one with a home button and one without, is a little bit of a stretch. Nowadays, a home button isn't a strong determining factor when picking a phone. If these renders truly depict different variants, the two might possibly house differences under the hood, but that's just pure guesswork.
Huawei P10 GFXBench Spotting
Whether the renders point to something legitimate or otherwise, there's no question that the P10 will indeed be Huawei's next flagship. It has already made its appearance over at GFXBench on Nov. 14, which hinted that the P10 will rock a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and be powered with an octa-core Kirin 960 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. It will also allegedly come with 6 GB of RAM and is expected to house 256 GB of internal storage, though expandable storage support has yet to be confirmed.
Additionally, the P10 is also expected to come preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat, as per the GFXBench listing.
Huawei P10 Release Date?
For now, the release date of the P10 is pure speculation, though the phone is expected to be official in early 2017. More details about the phone are expected to litter around the web in the coming weeks. The Huawei P10 will join other Huawei-Leica collaborations in the phone maker's lineup such as the P9 or the Mate 9.
