Those who are closely watching the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will know that it has announced three devices last October: the Mi VR, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and the Xiaomi Mi MIX. This last is a concept phone that has generated immense excitement and recent leaks reveal that the device could also come in white.
Bezel-Free Concept Phone
What has launched the tech world in a delightful state of agitation is the fact that Mi MIX has a 6.4-inch bezel-less form factor. This means that its screen occupies most of the front panel, posting around 84 percent screen-to-body ratio.
To put things in context, there are rumors that the iPhone 8 and one of the upcoming Galaxy flagships would also sport this new design. So Xiaomi will effectively be leading the industry toward this new trend. An actual product has already been officially announced and available in the market while competing devices are still mired in product development stage.
Certainly, Xiaomi is not the first company to throw a bezel-free phone in the market. That distinction has been claimed by Sharp with its Aquos Crystal and even Dell's Venue 8 tablet. However, the Mi MIX offers the most viable and possibly the best implemented design of the lot.
Leaked White Mi MIX
The officially confirmed Mi MIX has a dark color. But the leaked photographs from GizmoChina indicate that it will have a white option and possibly a 5.5-inch screen real estate. The images look legitimate as they showed the front, rear and side panels of the device, which is said to be called Nano. No further details have emerged. Fortunately, we could always turn to the hardware specifications of the available variant for more insights.
Specs And Availability
Under the hood, the Mi MIX's premium credentials are firmly established by the handset's use of the Snapdragon 821 processor, 4 GB of RAM for the base model and up to 256 GB storage. Its ceramic body is also being touted as resistant to scratching.
Mi MIX ships with the MIUI 8.0, which is based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The base model retails for $639 while the 6 GB special edition has a $749 price tag.
Unfortunately, Mi MIX is only available in China where it is getting wiped out in store shelves every time stocks get replenished. According to Xiaomi, its production capability is severely hampered by the availability of the handset's ceramic body. It is not yet clear whether the addition of a new color option will help address the high demand.
