If you're not sitting down, you may want to. CD Projekt Red has just unveiled video of the opening cinematic intro of their highly anticipated video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it is stunning.
The intro foreshadows the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and offers a sneak peek into the heart of the game itself. In the video, you'll see witcher Geralt, along with his mentor, Vesemir, as they follow the bloody trail of Yennefer of Vengerberg, Geralt's long lost love and a very powerful sorceress.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven roleplaying game set in a vast open world fantasy universe with multiple choices that affect the consequences of the game. Players take on the role of Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher, one of the last monster hunters in the world. Journeying through the game will take you through a world ravaged by war that leads to a dark confrontation with an army known as the Wild Hunt. This game concludes the story of Geralt that began in the two preceding The Witcher games.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won 55 awards at last year's E3. CD Projekt Red claims that the game has over 100 hours of gameplay, including both the main storyline and side missions. The studio states that the game's world is "35 times bigger than previous games."
The game boasts at least 36 different endings, depending on choices made by the player during gameplay. Its setting is varied, with different climates and environments, each with its own wildlife. That setting is also altered by in-game decisions, depending on how those decisions affect each ecosystem. For example, if you kill all the deers in a forest, the wolves leave in search of another food source. Kill all the wolves, and you'll see more deers.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also boasts an impressive voice cast including Game of Thrones' Tywin Lannister, Charles Dance, as Emperor Emhyr var Emreis.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt comes out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Feb. 24, 2015.
