Britney Spears has just announced the second single from her recent album Glory, titled "Slumber Party", and has released a brand-new music video to accompany the song. The track is a remixed version with new vocals by Tinashe, who also appears alongside Britney in the clip. The single topped Billboard's Twitter Trending chart as well as YouTube's trending chart.
"Slumber Party," the second official single off of the Glory album, is a fan favorite. Britney's team actually chose to release the song after several online polls determined it was the top pick from fans for the next single after the tepid reaction to the first release off the album, "Make Me."
Keeping Britney Relevant
The people behind Britney's machine have made an effort recently to team her up with some of today's hottest pop stars in order to keep her relevant. "Pretty Girls" famously featured Iggy Azalea, the former female rap ingénue of the moment, while her male counterpart, G-Eazy, graced "Make Me" in a remix that the two also performed live at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
This time around, Britney's team have recruited up and coming female R&B pop star, Tinashe, to record new vocals on "Slumber Party" and costar in the video just released for the song. The clip shows Britney and Tinashe slithering around and dancing at a party that features an Eyes Wide Shut style theme, and there are some sexy group moments that recall one of the pop star's most iconic videos, "I'm A Slave For You".
The newly released video is certainly getting buzz on the web, as it helped the song top Billboard's Twitter Trending chart for ten straight hours on Friday, Nov. 18 — the day of its release. The clip was directed by Colin Tilley, the same guy who has made videos for pop stars like Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj in the past. Lamar's "Alright" clip received a Grammy nomination for best music video.
"The vibe was what you see in the video," explained Britney. "Amazing costumes, energy, dancing, and people. We were filming a music video that portrays an incredible party, and that's what it felt like on set."
Spears also gushed about her latest collaborator, describing her with Britney's favorite word, "amazing".
"Tinashe is so sweet. I always see my fans talking about her online, and it just made so much sense to collaborate on this song," Britney said. "She was amazing, and I would love to find another way to work together in the future!"
Over 7 Million Hits On YouTube
"Slumber Party" has already received over 7 million YouTube views and is currently #1 on YouTube's trending chart. The song itself will be officially released as a single on Nov. 22 and we'll see then whether Spears is able to translate the social media buzz into her first bona fide hit single in several years.
