Conan O'Brien learned the hard way not to mess with Madeleine Albright after the comedian made a joke about the former Secretary of State on Twitter.
O'Brien tweeted on Thursday that he was dressing up as "Slutty Madeleine Albright" for Halloween. Even though he didn't include Albright's Twitter handle in his tweet, she responded less than an hour later with a zinger of her own.
.@ConanOBrien I'm considering going as hunky Conan O'Brien - but that might be too far fetched.

Shots fired! O'Brien was pleased that he had started a Twitter feud with the distinguished diplomat. Albright replied with a warning that sparring with her was not a good idea.
.@ConanOBrien Never get into a word war with a diplomat. We talk even more than comedians. — Madeleine Albright (@madeleine) October 23, 2014
Knowing that he would never be able to beat Albright, O'Brien gave in.
.@ConanOBrien Ha, you're certainly not the first to make that mistake... But all in good fun! #TeamCoco — Madeleine Albright (@madeleine) October 24, 2014
This Twitter back-and-forth was all in jest, but it's good to know that the first female Secretary of State has a sense of humor and can throw some shade as well. And in other "distinguished ladies tweeting" news, Queen Elizabeth II sent her first Tweet today at the Science Museum in London. The Queen tweeted from the British Monarchy account while attending an event celebrating the opening of the Information Age exhibit at the museum.
It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R. — BritishMonarchy (@BritishMonarchy) October 24, 2014
There's some controversy about whether the Queen really sent the tweet herself— the tweet was sent from an iPhone while the Queen was seen typing on an iPad. But it doesn't really matter. Her Majesty probably won't be getting into a Twitter war anytime soon.
