Samsung is on course to updating its Galaxy smartphone and tablet lineup to the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
The South Korean OEM reportedly has the Android 7.0 Nougat software update in development for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Tab S2 (we presume the refreshed 8-inch and 9.7-inch versions). Both Galaxy devices are still languishing in Android Marshmallow, and the arrival of the latest software would be welcomed by loyal Samsung users.
The news that the Android 7.0 Nougat OS upgrade is in the works for the Galaxy Tab S2 and Galaxy Note 5 comes courtesy of SamMobile.
"We can now confirm that Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy Tab S2 is being developed as well," reports the publication.
The article does not cite the source of the information; however, considering Samsung is already developing Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 smartphones, the news seems believable.
Earlier in November, Tech Times reported that Samsung had begun its Galaxy Beta Program for the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 smartphones. Users of the devices in select regions would be able to test the firmware's beta version upon registering.
Whether the Galaxy Tab S2 and Galaxy Note 5 would also be included in the beta programs is not clear.
When Will Galaxy Note 5 And Galaxy Tab S2 Receive The Android 7.0 Nougat Update?
Word that Samsung is in the process of developing the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Tab S2 does not, however, assure users that the update would be released soon.
It is likely that Samsung would take a few months to even get the Android OS update for the said devices ready.
Considering that the OEM is yet to confirm the Android Nougat update's release window for the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 — the development for which started much earlier — one would be jumping the gun if they hoped for a 2016 release of the update for the Note 5 and Tab S2.
The company would understandably push out the software update for its flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones first, followed by the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6. The Tab S2 and Note 5 could be the last of the lot to benefit from the update, given the development timeline.
Taking all factors into consideration, we would make an educated guess that the Galaxy Tab S2 and Galaxy Note 5 would begin receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update in the first quarter of 2017 at the earliest.
