There was only a five-month gap before OnePlus officially updated its previous flagship, the OnePlus 3 to the OnePlus 3T, with mostly under-the-hood changes and minimal, if not zero, cosmetic discrepancies with its predecessor.
Shortly after the announcement of the updated flagship, OnePlus has discontinued sales of the OnePlus 3 in the United States and Europe to make space for the OnePlus 3T, launching Nov. 22.
OnePlus 3 Sales Halt
Back when it was released in June, the OnePlus 3 progressively became a popular choice among onlookers of a smartphone with premium features that don't come with bank-breaking price tags. Despite its halt, it remains one of the best Android smartphones around, and while the same can be said for the OnePlus 3T, it's still unfortunate that the company yanked its predecessor from our threshold, considering that the OnePlus 3T doesn't really qualify as a major upgrade over the OnePlus 3.
A number of news sites stated that the OnePlus 3 would be restocked in the future, but Android Headlines has reported that sales of the device have officially stopped in U.S. and European markets, citing an official comment from the company. The OnePlus 3 is still up and running on the OnePlus website, but it now lists as "out of stock" when you head over to its purchase page.
OnePlus 3T Specs
Like previously mentioned, the OnePlus 3T isn't a compelling departure from its predecessor, save for a bigger 3,400 mAh battery, a more powerful 2.35 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, twice the number of megapixels of OnePlus 3's.
The OnePlus 3T has a form factor, design and screen size wholly identical to the OnePlus 3, except for a new color scheme OnePlus is calling "gunmetal." The 64 GB variant will retail for $439 while the 128 GB variant will retail for $479. Initially, OnePlus will release the gunmetal edition with the soft gold edition arriving soon after.
For current owners of the OnePlus 3, it's best to hold onto your device and refrain from upgrading to the OnePlus 3T. Shelling out $439 for a new phone that doesn't come with many significant alterations and improvements is simply not a wise move, since OnePlus promises to still push out latest Oxygen OS updates to the OnePlus 3.
For those looking to purchase a new smartphone, however, the OnePlus 3 should serve you well.
