Samsung is looking to return to winning ways with the Galaxy S8 come 2017, and the only way the company can do this is if the device comes packed with some of the best technology available for smartphones.
One such technology is force touch, something Apple has been doing for quite some time. Apple doesn't call its take on the technology force touch but rather 3D Touch. For those who are wondering, it's an interesting piece of tech that allows for the pressure sensitive features to be added to a smartphone screen.
Multiple sources who spoke with the investor claims Samsung wants to make force touch a main feature in its next line of flagship smartphones, which includes the Galaxy S8.
Galaxy S8 With Force Touch Display
Well, Samsung doesn't plan to go all out with the force touch technology. The idea is to start small then go big, and this could take up to two years. What this means is Samsung will roll out force touch to the Galaxy S8 and other flagship handsets in 2017, but for mid-range and low-end devices, it will likely take some time before the feature goes that far.
"Samsung is mulling to adopt the force touch technology partially from the S8 but the full adoption will come in one or two years," according to a supplier, reported by The Investor. "It is a matter of time before other major Android smartphone makers deploy the technology that will help enhance user interface."
Force is touch is very interesting because it allows the user to perform certain tasks using the screen, which is not possible with devices sporting regular touchscreens. Force touchscreens can determine how hard or how soft the user is pressing on the display, which allows for several scenarios to play out.
For example, users can create app shortcuts or even zoom in to a photo without selecting them. Now, it should be noted that while the Apple iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7 is known for having force touch, some Android devices have already incorporated it. The most prominent and the first to do so is Huawei's Mate S.
Not to mention, Google is preparing for the adoption of this technology, as the Android Nougat 7.1 operating system has the tools to support it.
Galaxy S8 Design And Specs Rumors
We can't say what the device will look like, but we can say it will likely come in two flavors. Rumors claim the Galaxy S8 devices will have a 5.7-inch display and a 6.2-inch display. We're guessing the latter is the Edge variant.
