Most of us can only image what it feels like to travel to space. And much to the chagrin of Hollywood, there has never been a way to know what space sounds like. Because there is no air beyond Earth's atmosphere, there is no way for sounds to be made.
But now NASA is making it possible to listen to the soundtrack of space by releasing an online collection of noises created by humans as they explored what lives beyond our planet.
Featuring the churning and rumbling of machinery and the voices of the space explorers, the soundtrack captures the relationship humans have had with space.
Acting as sound bites of history, the soundtrack of space is broken up into categories that include: "Rocket Engine," Space Shuttle Mission," "Apollo," and "Solar System and Beyond."
Listen to the soundtrack of space individually or as one complete audio documentary on Soundcloud.
