How powerful is the Nintendo Switch? This is something we've been trying to come to terms with ever since the console was officially announced.
Nintendo has yet to talk about the specifications, but we won't wait until the company releases the relevant information because something important just popped up.
Apparently, it's possible the Nintendo Switch could be as powerful as the Microsoft Xbox One. Now, some might view this as impossible, but one should bear in mind that the Xbox One is a three-year-old video game system.
A lot of work could have been done by then to improve the technology inside the Switch.
How Do We Even Know This?
The folks at Nintendo Enthusiast sat down and did some digging in hopes of learning what's inside the Nintendo Switch since the company won't release more information until Jan. 12. They came across several interviews of Bethesda's Pete Hines, and within these interviews, the answers to our questions might have been answered.
The first interview took place back in August of this year, and that's when we knew little of what the Switch was going to offer. In fact, we didn't even know the name of the console, but we did have a vague idea of what it could look like due to rumors.
Now, Mr. Hines spoke with the folks at Finder, and made it clear that for Bethesda to develop video games for the Switch, the technology would have to be right. Nintendo is a company that doesn't create a video game console based on power, so right away one would assume not a single Bethesda game would ever be released on the console.
The Second Interview
Few months after the first interview, Pete Hines was interviewed by the people at Metro UK. He revealed something rather interesting. So interesting, it could finally be the key to knowing the power of the Switch.
The interview said, "So if NX is announced in the next few weeks and is as powerful as an Xbox One or higher, then..." And to that, Hines had the following to say.
"Then it will absolutely be something that we consider. Okay... let's say they come out and say tomorrow it does X, Y, and Z. Well, Dishonored 2 is way down the road, it's not in the conversation," says Hines. "But anything that is in development, I think we'd take a look at and see if technically does it line up with what they're doing?"
What Do We Have Here Then?
When Nintendo released the first trailer of the Switch, one of the most notable video games shown was Skyrim. Now, the trailer was pre-rendered, but it's a good enough sign to suggest Bethesda is developing video games for the Switch. And from what Hines had said in the past, this will only happen if the system is as powerful as the Xbox One or better.
This doesn't necessarily mean the Switch is as robust as Microsoft's Xbox One. There's a chance Bethesda might have had a change of heart, but let's be honest here. A system that can run Skyrim needs to be powerful, so it's safe to assume the Switch could very well be in the same league.
