Taylor Swift has been releasing songs from her highly anticipated album, 1989, and her latest track dropped on iTunes in Canada last night. This new single is a major departure from the singer's other hits: it's just eight seconds of white noise.
It was probably a mistake, but that didn't stop Canadian fans from boosting "Track 3" all the way to #1 on iTunes before it was taken down. Yep, people paid $1.29 for eight seconds of static. If this was actually a test of how dedicated Swift's fans are, they have certainly proved their loyalty. The other singles from 1989, "Shake it Off," "Out of the Woods" and "Welcome to New York," have all shot up to #1 shortly after being released on iTunes, so "Track 3" was just following suit.
This means that if Swift ever decides to have an experimental music phase, her fans will still have her back. "Track 3" remains a mystery for now, but we'll get to hear what it really sounds like (and learn its real name) when 1989 is released on Oct. 27.
