Charming new Facebook ad captures the nuances of modern love

Remember when Facebook took the message function off their main app in an effort to get more people to download their Messenger app? Well, the company's new ad shows how Messenger can help you send creative love notes to your significant other. Yes, Facebook is out to prove that it's possible to be romantic over social media.

The short, cute TV spot titled "Say Love You Better" features a couple (and not for nothing, an interracial couple, something that isn't seen nearly enough in commercials) sending giant love messages to each other. These messages don't just contain words, they have pictures, videos, sound clips and emojis. By incorporating other types of media, Messenger is trying to set itself apart from other messaging apps.

Accompanied by a cover of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love," the ad successfully captures how love is expressed in the digital age. Despite the obsession with proposal videos, modern love isn't all about big romantic gestures. Sometimes all it takes is a little message to brighten your day.

Similar ads promoting Messenger will be moving to billboards in major cities soon. If they're as charming as this clip, then maybe people won't mind adding another app to their phones.
