To say she looks different is actually an understatement. To many who saw Renee Zellweger at ELLE's 21st Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration on Oct. 20, she looked like a completely different person.
With Hollywood being "Hollywood," Zellweger's surprising appearance, of course, generated a lot of buzz. The general consensus was that her new look was the result of plastic surgery. Others expound on this, saying it was probably plastic surgery gone bad.
Plastic surgeons and dermatologists weighed in on what Zellweger might have done to get her new look. Given her eyes were her most prominent features, it was the first thing many of them zeroed in on. They say she probably got an eye lift because her peepers are more opened up now. She was also relatively wrinkle-free for a 45-year-old so Botox may have also had a role in her transformation.
While people are generally reacting negatively about Zellweger's new look, not everyone thinks it's a disaster. In fact, board-certified plastic surgeon from Philadelphia Dr. Lyle Back thinks she looks nicer now.
"She had an excellent face lift, which has made her face much less puffy, rectangular and masculine appearing. Her face is more oval, elegant and feminine without an 'over-pulled' look. She has also had her eyes nicely done, losing the heavy, tired look around her eyes. A well designed, finessed nasal reshaping created a nice balance with the rest of her," he explained.
Positive or not, Zellweger is laughing off these reactions, saying she looks different because she's happier and healthier. She doesn't mind that people are noticing the difference and is, in fact, glad about it.
"My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy. I did work that allows for being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself," shared Zellweger.
What's next for her?
She's got a lot of attention to deflect at the moment but soon she'll have to contend with more as she was given the lead role in the big-screen version of the best-selling book Same Kind of Different As Me.
Zellweger is also looking to build a family. Her boyfriend Doyle Bramhall has a daughter from a previous marriage, but she wants her own. However, she knows she might have already missed her shot at getting pregnant so she's considering adopting with Bramhall.
