The recently announced 15-inch Macbook Pro is packing a serious piece of technology that allows it to support four 4K external displays or two 5K displays without any lag.
Apple is touting the machine's Thunderbolt 3 ports and DisplayPort interface as the culprit behind this new beast of a feature. They provide high bandwidth necessary to sustain the consistent and stable full color display render. It is also augmented by a discrete Radeon Pro graphic chip built by AMD for the laptop range, which complements the integrated Intel HD Graphics 530.
These technologies drive the capability of the 15-inch Macbook Pro to run screens with a combined 43 million pixel resolution without any hiccups whatsoever. The 13-inch model can also support a 5K screen but is only limited to one.
The aforementioned capability certainly comes at a steep price. The MacBook Pro is being sold for $2,800. If you throw in two 5K displays into the bundle, say the LG 27-inch UltraFine 5K screens, you will have to shell a total of $2,600 for both. The overall rig will set you back an eye-popping $5,400.
To be fair, the MacBook Pro is not all about 5K or 4K displays. For example, it also comes with the OLED Touch Bar, which Tech Times has previously reported as "touchscreen tool bar." It has replaced the row of Function keys.
It's interesting to note that the rumored e-ink keyboard was not implemented. This information has surfaced at about the same time the OLED touch screen tool speculation emerged.
The 15-inch laptop also ships with an integrated Touch ID sensor embedded in the power button. The technology works in the same way Touch ID does on iOS devices. Aside from the ability to unlock the MacBook Pro, it can also be used to authenticate Apple Pay or swap multiple Mac users. Everything just fell into place as these functionalities have been covered in the latest macOS Sierra.
There is a host of other new MacBook Pro features and the bottom line is that Apple wants you to know that the price should be worth it. It's now available for preorder with an expected three- to four-week delivery window. Unfortunately, if you're interested to purchase the LG UltraFine 5K displays, you'll have to wait a bit longer. It's not yet available as of this writing, even for preorder. Sources expect, however, that it will begin to roll out by December.
