A recent report suggested Apple was planning to release three iPhone 8 models in 2017, in 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes. A source, however, claims the company will stick to its two-device strategy and plans to only release a 4.7-inch iPhone 8 and 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus.
After coming off the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September, Apple has just announced new MacBook Pro models at a press event. It is the first major upgrade to the MacBook Pro series in over four years, and one of the laptop's major new features is a multi-touch OLED Touch Bar, which we reported would be included back in August.
New MacBook Pros Inspired By iPhone 7 And iPhone 7 Plus
Apple has been adding many iOS features to macOS over the last couple of years, and just like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus ditching the standard 3.5 mm headphone port in September, the new MacBook Pros ditched standard USB ports for USB Type-C ports.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus owners who want to sync their iPhones with Apple's new MacBook Pros will have to do it wirelessly or buy a separate dongle to attach via the USB-to-Lightning cable included in every iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus box. The new MacBook Pros are also the first Macs to feature Touch ID, which will unlock the laptop and authorize mobile payments.
4.7-Inch iPhone 8, 5-Inch iPhone 8 And 5.5-Inch iPhone 8 Plus In 2017?
Since the first details regarding the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus leaked in November 2015, which claimed the smartphones would drop the 3.5 mm headphone port, it's time for next year's flagship iPhones to make their own headlines. We just reported that Apple supply chain sources claimed the company was planning to release three iPhone 8 models in 2017 instead of two. The report said Apple would launch a 4.7-inch iPhone 8, 5-inch iPhone 8 and 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus.
iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus Display Sizes
AppleInsider is now reporting that a trusted source has told the publication that Apple will in fact only release two iPhone 8 models in 2017. The company will reportedly stick to its now-standard 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays that grace its flagship iPhones. It had seemed odd that a third model with a 5-inch display would be offered, considering the negligible size difference that would exist between it and the two other models.
iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Specs
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are expected to feature a completely redesigned case that will supposedly include a metal frame, curved AMOLED display with Touch ID embedded into the screen, an A11 Fusion chip, waterproof design and wireless charging, among its most notable features.
As always, we'll keep you posted on any additional iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus details as they become available.
