The OnePlus 4 is highly likely to include a headphone jack, hints a tweet from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei.
The OnePlus 4 is expected to be launched in mid-2017 but rumors of the smartphone have been doing the rounds for several months. Some pointed that the OnePlus 4 may not include a 3.5 mm audio jack. However, Pei started a poll on Twitter asking mobile phone enthusiast to vote whether they like headphone jack.
With Or Without Headphone Jack?
The poll results are one-sided as about 87 percent of the people want OnePlus to retain the headphone jack in the next flagship phone. Given that the Chinese handset maker still has several months before the launch of the OnePlus 4, Pei could be taking a customer opinion about headphone jacks in handsets.
The headphone jack has been a part of smartphones for long but some manufacturers are sacrificing the hardware component for several reasons such as make devices thinner, make them water resistant and more.
Motorola unveiled the Moto Z in June 2016 and it does not come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Users have to connect their headphones via a USB port adapter or over Bluetooth.
Apple has also followed suit as both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus does not have a headphone jack. Many customers are not happy that Apple has taken off the headphone jack from the new iPhones.
"This will be the first time I don't own an iPhone. Outside of just being obnoxiously annoying, I own a pair of $300 and $600 headphones. I'm not buying apple headphones and I'm not buying an adapter. They've lost me," complained a Redditor.
However, to keep customers happy Apple is selling a "Lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter" for $9.00 but it means that customers who often listen to music on the go will have to always carry the adaptor.
Rumor has it that the headphone jack will also not be available in the upcoming HTC Bolt.
OnePlus 4 Specs
OnePlus' next mobile phone is estimated to come with improved display, better battery and enhanced features. The OnePlus 3 is one of the limited smartphones with 6 GB of RAM and customers can expect to get at least the same RAM capacity in the next-gen OnePlus 4 as well.
The launch of the new OnePlus flagship smartphone is still a few months away and getting to know what customers feel about the 3.5 mm headphone is very important for the company. Judging by the poll results it seems highly likely that OnePlus will include headphone jack in the OnePlus 4.
