Samsung is reportedly going to let Galaxy Note 7 owners swap their devices for a free Galaxy S8 or get the upcoming flagship "without paying much" when it rolls out via a new exchange program.
This comes when the company was said to be considering giving discounts to those who bought the cancelled phablet when getting the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8.
Now, according to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung is putting the deal up for those who turned in their Galaxy Note 7 for either the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge.
"The new compensation program is designed to make it easier for those who exchange their Galaxy Note 7 with existing Samsung smartphones, to shift into our next model coming in next year. We think this could an effective program since it also provides some incentives to smartphone vendors," the Korean news outlet reports as Samsung's statement.
As mentioned earlier, the exchange's cost will range from zero to a small fee. According to SamMobile, it will depend on when the user traded in their Galaxy Note 7 for the two previous flagships, either in the first or second recall.
Interestingly enough, this could be the smartphone maker's attempt to encourage people to give up their Galaxy Note 7, as there are some out there who choose to hold on to the device despite the recall and risk of explosion.
For the uninitiated, Samsung recalled the phablet twice, as the supposedly safe replacements doled out were reported to still catch on fire. On the second run, the company decided to halt sales and hit the final nail in the coffin for the device, discontinuing production as soon as possible to minimize damages.
As everyone can imagine, it hasn't been a good year for Samsung, and to make things worse, Galaxy Note 7 owners even filed class action lawsuits against the manufacturer over how it handled the recall.
It's also worth mentioning that Samsung has already taken measures to convince customers to stay loyal and, at the same time, convince them to exchange their Galaxy Note 7.
Before wrapping things up, the Galaxy S8 is rumored to sport a 4K curved Super AMOLED display and house LG batteries, which could be seen as the company's way to prevent something like the Galaxy Note 7 recall from happening again.
