New 'Gotham' teaser: 'Spirit of the Goat'

Fox has been wise to use the newest episodes of Gotham to tease at the next week's show. By using the credits as a preview of sorts, Fox gets fans excited a full week before the next episode even airs. Yes, it's been done many times before, but the promos that Fox creates for Gotham have all been fantastic so far, and that trend continued last night.

The show has teased the reveal of major Batman supervillains since the first episode premiered. If the trailer is anything to go by, next week's episode may very well see their debut.

Obviously, the main tease in the video is the mysterious masked psychopath. Gotham certainly hasn't dropped any hints as to his identity, save for a single line of dialogue and the mask itself. While the original incarnation of Scarecrow looked like...well, a scarecrow, newer versions of the character use a torn-up and resewn mask, just like the one seen in the trailer. However, while the villain may look like the Scarecrow, fans may be hard-pressed to recall any instance in which the villain referred to himself as 'the Spirit of the Goat.'

On top of that, there are two small protrusions sticking out of the top of the mask that look eerily similar to the 'ears' on Batman's cowl. Obviously, the masked man isn't Bruce Wayne, but could the mask somehow inspire Bruce down the line?

The masked man wasn't the only tease in the trailer, as fans got to see Edward Nigma and Oswald Cobblepot at their most sinister yet. These two eventually become the Riddler and the Penguin respectively, and it seems that next week's episode may see the characters' biggest evolution since Gotham premiered.

Gotham has continued to do well for Fox: the show's ratings remain consistent, and the reception so far has been fantastic. If this show keeps doing as well as it has, there's a good chance viewers will get more Gotham once the first season comes to a close.
