Taylor Swift previews new song 'Welcome to New York.' Here's 5 other songs about New York you should listen to

Taylor Swift has been one busy lady promoting her new album 1989 in the lead-up to its release on Oct. 27. Swifties have already had the pleasure of hearing the lead single "Shake It Off" and her supposed ditty about ex Harry Styles "Out of the Woods."

Swift must really like us, because today she gave us a sneak peek of another song off of 1989, "Welcome to New York." As you can probably tell from the title, this electro-pop song details Swift's move to the city that never sleeps, which she moved to with "wide-eyed optimism," she said in an interview.

In the 30-second preview of the song released today, Swift repeatedly sings "Welcome to New York" in the chorus, which also includes the friendly sentiment "It's been waiting for you." The sentiment is little unoriginal, but still nice.

"Welcome to New York" echoes the message of many tunes about the Big Apple as a city of endless opportunity. The fact that that is an accurate description of New York is probably why it has inspired so many songs throughout history. Will Swift's song become a classic just like the many other songs about New York? Let these five classic tunes about the city help you decide.

1. Frank Sinatra - "Theme From New York, New York"

You can't have a list of classic songs about New York and not include Old Blue Eyes' 1980 hit. It's the unofficial anthem of the city where, "If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere."

2. Ella Fitzgerald - "Manhattan"

Fitzgerald takes us on a jazzy journey through the five boroughs, from Delancey Street in Manhattan to Brooklyn's Brighton Beach. It truly is a love letter to New York.

3. The Rolling Stones - "Shattered"

The Rolling Stones pay tribute to the gritty New York of the late 1970s. The song describes a city in decay that could beat you down, but it was still a place everyone wanted to be.

4. Beastie Boys - "No Sleep Till Brooklyn"

Brooklyn and the women of this city get the spotlight in this 1987 single from the Beastie Boys. You won't be able to stop yourself from chanting the chorus with the group.

5. LCD Soundsystem - "New York, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down"

This song off of LCD Soundsystem's 2007 album Sound of Silver perfectly encapsulates the love-hate relationship many New Yorkers have with this fine city. Plus, the video features Kermit the Frog.
