PlayStation 4 just got a re-released version of the Red Dead Revolver and gamers can now download it at the PlayStation Store. The third-person shooter game, which was released in 2004, might positively be ancient, but it has few interesting opportunities that players could enjoy.
First, the game rolled out with newly upgraded graphics. It now has full 1080p up-rendered visuals. In addition the game also features Trophies, Shareplay and Remote Play.
Rockstar, the game developer, did not tinker with the game's mechanics. It still has its original story set in the Wild West during the 1880s. The narrative revolves around Red, a bounty hunter who helps keep the peace in a town called Brimstone. Not a few noted his similarity to the characters that Clint Eastwood played in the big screen.
In the actual gameplay, players get to choose a character with a unique ability that can be activated at a certain point. Players could also purchase supplies and weapons from the town stores as they go about killing targets across different missions.
For those who have not played the game yet, Red Dead Revolver was highly acclaimed immediately after its release.
"If you can forgive Red Dead Revolver for its hubris, you'll find a game with some great style and enough fun moments to justify the rough edges," Gamespot stated in its review.
The title, however, remained inferior to its sequel Red Dead Redemption in most fans' opinion. It is for this reason some are pleased that Red Dead is heading to the PS4. For this group, this development means that there is a chance that the game will also get ported into the platform.
Still, Red Dead Revolver has created quite a stir when it popped up in the Australian PlayStation Store recently and proceeded on raising the ruckus a bar higher after it was immediately pulled out for still unknown reason. The game only resurfaced in the same store last Oct. 10 and American PS4 owners are expected to pounce on the title with understandable alacrity.
The interest can partly be attributed to the fact that there is still no news about the Red Dead Redemption 2. While Rockstar is rumored to be working on this project, which is expected to follow the Redemption narrative, it is expected to be released sometime next year. On the other hand, Red Dead's availability in the PS4 platform could be part of the drive to generate interest, suggesting that the sequel is almost in our midst.
Red Dead Revolver is listed at the PlayStation Store for $14.99.
