Retailer B&H puts the unannounced BlackBerry DTEK60 on preorder.
There was a similar incident last week in which Canadian electronics retailer NCIX listed the DTEK60 for preorder in its online store. Prior to NCIX, BlackBerry itself made an "error" by publishing a writeup for the DTEK60 that detailed the smartphone's specs and features. The article's URL had a "donotpublish" text at the end.
While both NCIX's and BlackBerry's listings have been taken down, B&H's erected its own page for an unlocked, black 32 GB BlackBerry DTEK60 (BBA100-1). B&H has the handheld on preorder and has tagged the listing with "New Item - Coming Soon."
Update: B&H took down its listing for a black 32 GB BlackBerry DTEK60 (BBA100-1).
The DTEK60 specs that B&H listed coincide with what BlackBerry and NCIX posted.
Under The Hood
The smartphone is fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processors with two Kryo dual-core processors — one core is clocked to 2.15 GHz while the other is at 1.6 GHz. This is paired with the Adreno 530 graphics processor. It will also sport 4 GB of RAM and, as mentioned, a 32 GB internal storage. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot that will cater cards of up to 2 TB.
Display
The DTEK60 hosts a 5.5-inch AMOLED QHD display and runs natively on 1440p (2,560 x 1,440). The combination produces a pixel density of 534 ppi.
Camera
Moving beyond the innards and display, BlackBerry's latest smartphone offering houses an f/2.0, 21-megapixel main shooter with phase detection, autofocus, HDR and dual-tone, dual-LED flash. As with most premium handhelds today, it can shoot 4K videos at 30fps. The rear shooter is complemented by a humble f/2.2, 8-megapixel front-facing camera, which is capable of capturing 1080p videos.
Connectivity, Battery And Accessories
The BlackBerry DTEK60 supports dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth 4.2+LE. Of course, it comes with 4G LTE connectivity for mobile networks.
A 3,000 mAh lithium-ion battery will power the DTEK60. It can be recharged with a reversible USB Type-C cable.
Aside from the accompanying headphones, B&H lists a black soft shell case that will come with every purchase of the DTEK60. Moreover, B&H also offers a black swivel holster, which is sold separately for $29.99.
Software
Out of the box, the DTEK60 will be running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which just celebrated the anniversary of when it was first released last week. There's also the BlackBerry's productivity and security suite.
"The built-in DTEK security suite automatically monitors your operating system and apps and alerts you to potential privacy and security risks," writes B&H. "The device is encrypted and comes with a password keeper to securely store your passwords, personal information, and other details."
Price
The black 32 GB BlackBerry DTEK60 (BBA100-1) was listed on preorder for $499.99. B&H did not specify a shipping date.
