Android Lollipop Easter egg is based on the popular game Flappy Bird, a simple game that requires one to tap the screen in order to maneuver through obstacles and avoid a big thud, which ends the game. The same type of game play is found in the game nestled in Android Lollipop. Users can find the "not-so-secret" game by tapping through menus and giving a long press in one of the options. It is available in the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 devices.
These devices recently got an updated Android 5.0 Lollipop version from Google along with the 5.0 SDK tools. However, Google adds a special surprise to users which is the latest Easter egg.
To check it out, users must first go to the Settings menu and choose the option called 'About phone/tablet.' Then, the user must find the line that says 'Android version' which has the characters '5.0' underneath. The line should then be tapped repeatedly until the lollipop loads. Once it's loaded, users can tap it to change it into various colors. However, pressing on it long enough would reveal the Easter egg which is a Flappy Bird clone game but comes with a bugdroid or Android mascot and lollipop obstacles.
In Flappy Bird, users navigate a pixilated bird through vertical tunnels. With the Android mascot or "Flappy Droid," users would navigate the mascot through the air between all those delicious and swirled lollipops. Moreover, users would notice that the background changes into night and day and the lollipops appear in different colors and sizes. There's also a ticker that keeps track of the earned points.
Previously, Google had designed Nyan Cat ice cream sandwiches, floating desserts trays and even the strange webdriver torso error which all acted as Easter eggs. This time, Google takes the Easter egg to a different level by designing a game that users can actually play.
It remains to be seen whether Google will keep the game infinitely or will add more features to it in the future. Either way, it absolutely makes a great addition to the new Lollipop version. Lastly, users get first-hand experience on a visual style that's authentically Material Design-inspired. Material Design allows an app to adopt a bold, colorful and flexible design that delivers consistent and intuitive experiences across all of the user's devices.
