New 'Mafia III' PC Patch To Boost FPS May Come As Early As This Weekend

Mafia III is out now, but for some PC players, the six-year gap since the last entry was not necessarily worth the wait. In the hours leading up to its release (and even up to now) the game's page on Steam was filled with complaints about crashes, glitches and visual parity between the actual game and what was seen in trailers.

Soon after, publisher 2K and developer Hangar 13 issued a statement to their PC gaming audience, revealing that an update for Mafia III would be coming soon, which would improve the game's performance. While that was certainly welcome news, no timetable was presented, meaning the patch could come as early as launch day or as late as the following week.

Well, the two companies have provided an update to the previous announcement, and it has some good news: the update might come as early as this weekend if everything goes well.

"We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III," the update read. "We're verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!"

As you can see, the update also goes into detail about the various problems this patch will address. First, it will fix the FPS problems that so many on Steam took issue with, allowing them to unlock the frame-rate and set it to either 30, 60 or unlimited FPS. Second, it will also offer "other improvements," which likely alludes to the other issues that Steam users are mentioning in their reviews, such as crashes and glitches.

In light of these impending changes, it looks like fans are willing to give the game a chance — for the time being. Compared to the earlier "mixed" rating, where 43 percent of the 602 reviews were considered positive, 53 percent of the 3,587 reviews are now considered positive, meaning that while the reviews are still considered "mixed" overall, they are starting to lean positive.

So now, all that's left is to wait and see if this patch comes over the weekend as intended and lives up to everyone's expectations.
