An upcoming Pokémon GO update will make big changes to gym training and capturing rare Pokémon.
The free-to-play location-based augmented reality game Pokémon GO has been developed by Niantic Labs for iOS and Android. The mobile app had taken the world by a storm when it was initially released in July this year.
Although the Pokémon GO fever has been fading, the game developer is making significant changes to the mobile app. On Oct. 6, Niantic Labs announced an upcoming update to Pokémon GO that will allow trainers to bring as many as six Pokémon to battle while training at a friendly gym.
"In addition, the CP of the Pokémon you are training against may be temporarily adjusted lower during your training session to generally match your Pokémon's battle capabilities. No matter what your level, you can now have an impact on your team's Gym. Walk with your Buddy Pokémon to that nearby landmark and show your Team Leader that you can battle with the best!" says Niantic.
The upcoming update will make gym training more exciting even for players who are at lower levels.
On Oct. 5, Niantic Labs also made an announcement regarding an upcoming update, which will make it easier for players to catch rare Pokémon.
"We are adding a new feature which grants a catch bonus when you earn medals based on catching certain types of Pokémon (Kindler, Psychic, Gardener, etc.)," says Niantic Labs.
The game developer has described these features as 'coming soon' but Niantic has not confirmed when these two features will arrive and if both of them will be available via a single update.
Pokémon GO is available as a free download from the Apple App store and Google Play store. The Android version of the app weighs 76 MB and requires a device working on Android 4.4 KitKat or above. The iOS version requires iOS 8.0 or above and the download file weighs 258 MB.
Pokémon GO has a huge fan following around the world and since its launch, the app has been downloaded 500 million times. Since its launch, Pokémon GO has made over $440 million and was also the top grossing app in the U.S. app store for 74 days.
Although Pokémon GO hype has faded over time, millions of users are still actively playing the game. The upcoming features are expected to ignite the Pokémon GO fever once again but fans will have to wait until the company officially confirms the update's release date.
