Verizon subscribers who are also iPhone 7 owners started to browse message boards and even Apple's own discussion boards to report connection problems on their devices.
It looks like some iPhone 7s purchased from Verizon have a penchant for spontaneously switching from LTE to 3G.
Not only are reports piling up that iPhone 7 devices running on Big Red's network lose their LTE signal and go back to using 3G, but a different bug seems to sprout often as well. Other users complain that their handsets are simply losing GPS signal without warning.
Some users found that switching the Airplane Mode on and off restores the LTE connection, while others say that a restart was the only way to get LTE back.
The Apple discussion board is brimming with talks on the topic.
User Patrick M10 explains that while he is driving his iPhone 7 from Verizon "drops from LTE to 3G and then no service at all."
He goes on to add that sometimes, the connection auto-restores in a few minutes, but that is not always the case.
"Typically I have to reboot my phone and the service is back with LTE," Patrick M10 says.
He points out that he did not encounter this issue with the iPhone 6 Plus that was running iOS 10.
Gizmodo looked into the matter and seems to have found a solution to the irking problem. According to the tech site, the issue could reside with the Voice Over LTE technology.
Some users reported that their problem disappeared after going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE, and then selecting Data Only. However, the caveat is that users only have the ability to voice call or use data, but not both at the same time.
Seeing how widespread the problem was, it is likely that Apple and Verizon are working on providing a fix as we write.
It should be mentioned that issues and bugs were scarce in the first two weeks after the iPhone 7 rolled out. The "honey moon" of the device seems to be nearing its end, as reports from different directions point at the smartphone's flaws. For example, some users are having Activation Lock problems on their iPhone 7 units. To top it out, the battery of the iPhone 7 is dubbed the worst non-explosive power source in the top tier category.
