A series of Instagram posts confirmed that the game Beyond Good And Evil 2 is finally on its way to the PC on Oct. 12. Based on available information as of this writing, it is purportedly in preproduction stage.
The announcement has been met with excitement and what appears to be a huge sense of relief as most of the game's fans have been waiting for a sequel to the original Beyond Good And Evil for a very long time. Like we're talking 13 years or so here and the wait has been riddled by numerous disappointments. This is articulated by a comment from an Instagram user called alxgsv, who said:
"In 2003 I was student, living at parents' home. Now I have two kids, wife, cat, but still no BGE2. Please do it!"
To be fair, it seems that Ubisoft is really working on bringing something awesome to fans. The visuals of original game veered toward the cartoonish, although nobody complained about it. But in the concept art posted by Michel Ancel, the characters seem to be arriving to your computers in their more realistic forms. The Rastafarian rhino, which is part of the family of rhinos running the Mammago Garage, demonstrated this best.
One can say that the posts merely involved a concept art and Ancel himself was not very forthcoming about the visuals or the overall changes made to the game. Fortunately, we have Eurogamer to thank because the outfit successfully eked out a comment from the powers that be at Ubisoft.
"Michel is currently sharing his time between Ubisoft and Wild Sheep studios," the game developer told Eurogamer. "The artwork he posted is from the game he's currently working on at Ubisoft. We don't have anything further to share at this stage."
Since the original game has been released eons ago, it is understandable that there are gamers out there who are not familiar as to what this Beyond Good and Evil business is all about. The game belongs to the action-adventure genre where the player controls the protagonist called Jade and her cohorts. She is working to expose an alien conspiracy and has to battle enemies and solve puzzles in the process. Again, there is no word if there are going to be changes to this narrative.
The game actually tanked when it was first released but it was critically acclaimed and earned several awards. It also boasts of a loyal following as evidenced by the enthusiastic responses to Ancel's Beyond Good And Evil 2 Instagram post.
The game is free but only if you are a registered Ubi30 member.
