Motorola's batwing boot animation is staging a spectacular comeback, which should please die-hard Moto fans.
The new "Hello Moto" boot animation was just posted in Motorola's Twitter account. This is surprising given the fact that the animation in the recent Motorola phones particularly the Moto G4 and the Moto Z handset range no longer show the batwing logo prominently.
In the 9-second boot clip, the user is greeted with the "hello Moto" slogan immediately before proceeding to a series of images in eye-popping colors. The batwing logo sticks to the screen for the most part of what Moto USA team called as "hello Moto" sonic mnemonic.
Many have expected that that the Hello Moto animation and slogan will be smothered for good as Lenovo angles to integrate Motorola into its own fold. Motorola's acquisition has been partly attributed to the goal of beefing up Lenovo's own global brand and this is being blamed for the emergence of the simple Moto word during boot up for recent Motorola handsets.
In the past, the company went as far as saying, for example, that it will no longer use the Motorola branding, reducing it to just simple Moto in gradual steps toward its demise.
The tech world, therefore, considers the latest development as notable, indicating a move on the part of Lenovo to keep the Motorola brand and its iconic features intact. This has been reinforced by Moto USA in a statement saying that the new boot animation and Hello Moto slogan is only part of a future campaign that will leverage the Motorola brand. This is particularly significant as Lenovo is slated to release several Motorola handsets soon and they will roll out with their respective marketing campaigns.
"This animation will also be the power-up on new Moto phones," the "hello Moto" animation's description at YouTube stated.
Using the "hello Moto" slogan is not entirely surprising given its popularity in the past. It is considered the most iconic Motorola branding and has been a permanent fixture in old marketing peripherals.
However, one could also note how the batwing logo has been punched out of the frame at the end of the animation. It seems odd that this scene would be popping on Motorola handsets from here onwards. The slogan was also spoken by a woman with what sounds like a Chinese accent. All these could probably lead to the idea that, at certain point, that batwing logo would be completely eliminated without any hope of a comeback.
