Announcements regarding Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are on the way, according to Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, and they likely have to do with Wii U exclusive features teased by Sakurai himself earlier this week.
Speaking with Famitsu magazine and translated by Kotaku, Sakurai shared more details on the Wii U version of the game, which only recently received a release date of Nov. 21. He says work is not yet completed on the Wii U version. Sakurai also revealed that players will be able to use their Nintendo 3DS as a controller for the Wii U Super Smash Bros., as well as share their customized fighters between the 3DS and Wii U version of the game.
As for the cryptic images that seem to hint at new game modes, Sakurai didn't say much. He says an announcement discussing Wii U exclusive features will be coming soon from Nintendo. If that's the case, the announcements will likely come in the form of a Nintendo Direct, which for a while now has been the company's go-to method for announcing news games and features. Nintendo Directs are internet broadcasts that work as mini-press conferences, which Nintendo uses to demo games and discuss products.
The new modes seem to indicate the Super Smash Bros. bosses of Master Hand and Crazy hand might be playable. However, we won't know for sure what the modes will consist of until Nintendo's official announcement. Super Smash Bros. 3DS features a mode exclusive to the handheld version of the game in the form of "Smash Run," so it isn't surprising the Wii U version of the game may feature exclusive modes of its own.
Nintendo is also giving fans a better look at how some of the game's secret unlockable characters will look on the Wii U's hardware. If you want to remain pure, don't worry, we won't spoil the surprise for you. For those interested in seeing the unlockable characters in all their Wii U glory, click here for the new screenshots.
