iPhone 7 Plus Can Snap 3D-Like Images With The ProCam 4 App

Buying a new app for the iPhone 7 Plus, which comes with dual cameras will enable users to create stunning 3D-like animated images.

As the iPhone 7 lineup (including the in demand jet black version) started arriving, the lucky few who already got the smartphone have been extolling its great new features. In particular, technophiles and camera geeks who have been waiting to check out the iPhone 7 Plus dual cameras are now raving about its ability to take 3D-like photos.

Outlining the process by which users can make use of the dual cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus to take 3D like photos, Forbes states they will first of all need the "third-party camera app, ProCam 4." This particular app when used on the iPhone 7 Plus gives people the ability to take full advantage of the dual camera. When users want to create 3D-like photos, the app's 3D Photos mode can be used to combine two shots that have been taken by cameras concurrently.

Since one of the cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus has a wide-angle lens and the other a telephoto, they capture two photos with a "slight difference in perspective." After the aligning and combining the two photos in the post processing phase of the ProCam 4 app, users will get an animated GIF with 3D-like appearance, as the focus quickly alternates between the once two separate images. This results in a better quality GIF, which many will find appealing if they want to make full use of the dual cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus.

Saving the image as a GIF will give it a "pseudo-3D effect" as stated by 9to5Mac and it goes on to add that the app also allows processing the photos as JPEG versions. There is also an option to save the GIF as a video file. This ability to choose from different types of files when saving the image is going to appeal to many iPhone 7 Plus users.

The ProCam 4 app was released on Sept. 19 and it came with features that were specifically designed for the iPhone 7 Plus, which has two camera lenses. However, when it released the ProCam 4, it did not come with the ability to take 3D-like photos. The feature was only introduced when the app got updated to version 8.5 on Sept. 29. In addition to the 3D Photos mode, the app now lets users preview and share GIF files.

According to Forbes, these "wigglegram" images are already being used by the public, so the inclusion of the feature on the ProCam 4 app is nothing new. However, it is clear that iPhone 7 Plus users are going to have a lot of fun with it, if they decide to buy the ProCam 4 app, which is currently priced at $4.99 on iTunes.
