In the desert outside of Deming, New Mexico, Warner Bros. is building something. What this massive set is, exactly, is hard to say. It looks like some kind of fortress or castle, with vaguely Moroccan architecture.
Local news station KOAT out of Albuquerque claims to have an inside source that says the desert set is for none other than WB's tentpole flick Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is currently filming in Detroit. According to a casting notice, the set is to be used in the highly secretive movie for scenes set in an "African village." Those scenes are set to be filmed in November.
The Deming Headlight reports that these scenes were originally planned to be shot in Africa for real, but the Ebola crisis forced director Zack Snyder and his team to relocate. KOAT sent their news chopper out to the desert to investigate, and brought back aerial video of the set.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the casting notice was a red herring meant to throw us off. Maybe it's something else altogether.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, will be in theaters March 25, 2016.
