Even though the first team of players completed Destiny's new "Wrath of the Machine" raid a mere two hours after it released, that doesn't mean all of the raid's secrets have been discovered. For example, players were perplexed by a hidden and locked chest. What secrets were locked within?
As it turns out, opening the secret chest is just the beginning. That chest begins a lengthy and complicated quest for Outbreak Prime, a potent new exotic pulse rifle recently obtained by Destiny streamer Datto (with some major help from the Destiny community on Reddit).
Explaining the entire quest line is fairly complex, but for starters you'll need to find all monitors within the "Wrath of the Machine" raid. Later, fireteam members must stand on certain canisters, which then leads to the raid's monitors displaying number sequences that need to be converted to decimal. Then, raid members have to step on the canisters once more, but this time in a particular order.
Players must next defeat the raid's final boss and open the secret chest by activating the last monitor. And that's just the start. From there players will have to complete the raid another time and input even more confusing number sequences before finally obtaining the weapon. You can read a step-by-step breakdown of what all needs to be done over on the Destiny subreddit.
It sounds like a ton of work, but the reward looks like it just might be worth it. Outbreak Prime's special ability sees enemies repeatedly shot with the weapon spawn "SIVA nanites," which then seek out and damage other enemies. Fallen enemies also take extra damage from the weapon. It also looks extremely cool, which counts for a lot in the world of Destiny.
Is Outbreak Prime Rise of Iron's major secret, or might there still be more for players to discover? That remains to be seen, but hopefully Bungie has more planned for players in the months ahead. Rise of Iron is supposedly the last major expansion for Destiny, with Bungie now focusing on Destiny 2 for a 2017 release.
According to recent rumors, Destiny 2 is set to be an entirely new game, with character progress possibly not carrying over from the original Destiny. It may also release on PC. In the meantime, Rise of Iron is currently available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
