Described as smellier, swine versions of Decepticons, Deceptihogs are on the loose and its up to a valiant collection of robotic birds to stop them.
Rovio Entertainment unleashes another iteration of the Angry Birds series and, this time, the fed up fowl are blended into the Transformers universe. Angry Birds Transformers has finally launched on iOS and the mashup of game will be available on Android soon, according to Rovio.
"With Angry Birds Transformers we created a totally new action-packed gameplay experience, where the player gets to jump into action either on their feet or on wheels," says Jami Laes, Rovio Entertainment's executive vice president of games. "This is of course just the beginning and there's more to come! As with all of Rovio's games, there will be exciting updates with new content and features coming in the future."
The Autobots leave behind the bird-launching slingshot in Angry Birds Transformers, as the game play takes on a 2D, side-scrolling mechanic. The game's visuals are a pixel-twisting fest of lasers and explosions, though familiar Angry Birds characters can be sussed out when taking a close look at all of the mayhem on screen.
"This brave band of heroes features Red as Optimus Prime, Chuck as Bumblebee and... well, you'll meet the rest soon," states the game's description. "They've got lasers and they turn into cars. Plus they have arms and legs -- that's a first! But the courageous Autobirds can't save Piggy Island on their own -- to stop the EggBots they'll need to join forces with their archrivals the Deceptihogs (like Decepticons, only smellier). "
Since 2012, the wind beneath Angry Bird's wings has devolved into a waning breeze and has resulted in layoffs at Rovio Entertainment. It's far too early to tell how well Angry Birds Transformer will boost the value of Rovio Entertainment, but this latest game and an upcoming Angry Birds movie shows there's still a lot of fight left in the ornery ornithologists.
"We had a lot of fun working with Rovio to develop the Angry Birds Transformers characters, ensuring they captured the comedic side of the Angry Birds personalities while staying true to the heroic Transformers characters," says Jonathan Berkowitz, Hasbro's vice president of global gaming. "We think fans worldwide will really enjoy this fun, new Transformers universe, mashed up with the Angry Birds world - it truly is 'more than meets the eye'."
Now on Apple, the Android version will be on Google Play Oct. 30 and on Amazon Nov. 4. There's also an Angry Birds Transformers Telepods product line from Hasbro, which allows players to teleport figures straight into the game and gain unique powers.
