If the latest Metal Gear Survive gameplay footage left you rather unimpressed, fear not — you are not alone. It seems the series creator, Hideo Kojima, is unimpressed as well.
Hideo Kojima is the creator of the Metal Gear series, but is no longer working on the franchise. Metal Gear Survive is the first game in the series since Kojima left Konami, and many are waiting to see what will come of it.
If the latest Metal Gear Survive gameplay footage shown off at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 is any indication, the game may turn out to be a bit of a disappointment to loyal franchise fans. The gameplay footage racked up a massive amount of dislikes on YouTube and Konami got some heavy criticism as to why it decided to come up with a game that has nearly nothing to do with Metal Gear, yet still include it in the series.
Many also found the footage rather boring, while others, Kojima included, wondered what zombies were doing in the game.
Metal Gear Survive is the first game in the franchise without the iconic Hideo Kojima, so what does the creator have to say about the new installment?
When asked whether the idea for Metal Gear Survive came from him, Kojima said he had nothing to do with it, IGN reports. The creator goes on to question the game's inclusion of zombies.
"The Metal Gear Games are about political fiction and espionage," says Kojima. "Where do zombies fit in with that?"
Meanwhile, former Metal Gear character and mechanical designer, Yoji Shinkawa, distances himself from the game as well, jokingly noting that if he had worked on Metal Gear Survive, "it would have mechs in it." Shinkawa is now working with Kojima on Death Stranding.
As for the zombies part, while Kojima may be on to something when he questions them fitting in, it's worth pointing out that Metal Gear Solid V had zombies in it as well, and Kojima still on board at that point.
Either way, like it or not, Metal Gear Survive is coming. The four-person co-op zombie survival game is all set to hit the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PC sometime next year. The storyline is set in the same universe as Metal Gear Solid V, after the events of Ground Zeroes.
